State Senate approves bill banning funds for animal experiments

The Virginia Senate has approved legislation that prohibits state funding for experiments on dogs and cats. The law would impose a penalty of up to $50,000 for performing medically unnecessary research that causes pain or distress to a dog or cat.

“This is to make sure that we’re protecting the taxpayer pipeline, from the taxpayer money directly to the person who is conducting these painful, horrendous, unethical and immoral experiments,” Stanley said Friday on the Senate floor.
