Belgium released their 2016 animal research statistics showing an overall 5.4 % decrease in the number of procedures on animals since 2015. Even with an overall decrease, procedures on rabbits, birds, cats and other mammals increased from 2015. Other statistics show that the reuse of animals accounted for 1.52% of all procedures. Belgium is one of the countries that shows a decreasing trend in animal procedures since 1997.
